CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Leather
Regular use of water and stain repellent will help guard against stains and water penetration. However a protector will not make the shoe waterproof. Wet shoes should always be left to dry naturally, never by artificial heat.
Smooth Leather
Regular leather shoes need cleaning and care with shoe creams or polishes. Select a neutral shade or a color nearest to the color of the shoes. Remove all dust and dirt with a damp cotton cloth. Never polish wet shoes.
Scuff-Resistant Leather
Remove minor scuffs by simply rubbing them with your hand. The natural oil in your hand restores the original look of the leather. For deeper scrapes and scuffs use a soft and neutral shoe polish. This process moisturizes and replenishes the natural oil in the leather leaving a shiny coating that will prolong and sustain the wear of the leather.
Suede
Regular use of a soft brush or rubber brush will keep the nap of the suede free from dust. Stubborn stains should be removed with a commercial suede cleaner.
Nubuck
Extra care should be taken when cleaning due to the fine nap of this leather. Stains should be removed with a special Nubuck cleaner and a soft suede brush.
Please Note
At Washington Shoe we use only premium natural leathers. Our natural leathers have high fat-liquor content, which sometimes develops a white surface haze known as Blooming
. More noticeable on darker leathers, this white discoloration can easily be removed by wiping down with a damp cloth. Our natural leathers may also bleed their pigment onto lighly colored socks the first few times being worn.
